Overview

What it is

Off-Grid Communications is where Trailbound Tech’s radio and homelab work meet. It is not just a radio kit: it is a portable communications and information ecosystem combining long-range RF, optional satellite connectivity, local networking, compute and offline reference material.

Every layer should still provide value when the layers above it disappear. Internet access is useful, but it is not treated as a prerequisite.

Goals

Build for graceful degradation. SATCOM can provide IP reach-back when available. HF still provides long-range communications without it. A MiniLab keeps local services running. Kiwix and stored reference data remain available when there is no upstream connection at all.

Resilient by design

Multiple communications paths and local services reduce dependence on one infrastructure layer.

Radio + IP together

RF and networking are complementary capabilities, not competing choices.

Information resilience

Locally available knowledge is treated as part of communications readiness.
