TAK • Mapping • Linux

OpenTAKServer

A self-hosted TAK service focused on mapping, situational awareness and field communications.

Overview

What it is

This project explores running OpenTAKServer as part of the Trailbound infrastructure stack, including deployment, database services, TLS/reverse-proxy access, troubleshooting and integration with field clients.

Goals

Understand the full path from field client to application: authentication, network exposure, data services, server health and recovery.

Field-oriented

A natural bridge between infrastructure engineering and communications work.

Self-hosted control

Server configuration, certificates, data and service lifecycle remain under local control.

System Components

Stack & Capabilities

OpenTAKServer

The application layer providing TAK-compatible services.

Linux + PostgreSQL

Server and data platform supporting the application stack.

Edge Access

Public access routed through the Trailbound edge architecture rather than directly exposing internal infrastructure.

Field Clients

ATAK and TAK clients consume mapping and coordination services.
